I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For The Best Ice Cream In Town
Welcome Summer! Right on time for the official start of summer, we have a culinary sisterMAG event-tip for you! For the first time, Gelato Festival is coming to Germany this July. Eleven German ice cream makers will showcase their skills and present delicious types of ice cream uniquely created for the festival. The visitors are allowed to vote for their favourite gelato (after trying them all, of course). A Jury of professionals will complete the votes, choosing two winners which will then go to Florence to compete for the title of best Gelato Maker in Europe.
The finals in Italy, home of the gelato and other delicious dishes, would surely make inventor of the gelato and true Florentine Bernardo Buontalenti proud. The architect started the tradition of creamy goodness during Renaissance and the Gelato Festival (founded in 2010) has been launched in his honour. To complete sugar, spice and everything nice in the gelato, Milan invented the so called “Parisians” (aka ice cream cone) in 1906.

Back to the festival: one of your favourites will surely be the Gelato-Truck Ruggeri. They have all the one-off gelatos and all the inside scoop on how your favourite treat got to be so incredibly good. At Buontalenti, you can watch live ice cream production and for those of you already dreaming of starting your very own pastel coloured dream of an ice cream shop, there are talks and workshops about true Italian gelato at the Caterina.
