The Film Era of Women
To this day, the invention of the film as a mass medium mainly documents the changing relations between the sexes. While women dominated silent pictures in front of and behind the camera, creating a new ‚ideal woman‘, the development of sound films and the phenomenon of the »male gaze« changed history and women’s role in film.
